Bio

I’m Jeff Alvarez –– an inspired audio engineer, sound designer, composer, and musician equipped to help elevate your next project, whether through editing, mixing, or scoring. I’m a co-founder and audio engineer for ‘The Explorist’ podcast as well as an audio editor and mixer for podcasts like ‘Roadside Terroir’, ‘Detailed’, ‘The Leadership Playbook’, ‘Outside Voices’, ‘Modern Persian Food’, and more. I've done audio editing, mixing, production, and music composition for a diverse clientele that includes Crosscut’s Emmy-nominated documentary, The Rising, NPR’s All Things D, Scientific American’s The Monitor video series, Grist, Backpacker, Seattle University, and numerous commercial clients. I'm a percussionist going on 20+ years and have played on over a dozen records. My sound engineering/audio production capabilities include a professional studio offering multi-track recording, audio editing, mixing, composing, and mastering.

From troubleshooting cross-continent sat-phone recordings in the Congolese rainforest to getting a clear, balanced mix in the studio, I know how to procure high-quality sound so the story or music can do the talking. I also have the chops to package your project with a sonic atmosphere that can drive a narrative when necessary, but hang back when it needs to get out of the way. Context and creativity drive my approach to audio. And in a pinch, I can deftly employ studio wizardry to punch up audio when things just don’t go your way.
